Linking Land and Sea

Spend a day or two wandering through the grounds of any of the 14 community fairs, exhibitions and festivals held on Prince Edward Island each summer and you'll gain new insight into our way of life while having the time of your life!

Infotainment is the word which best describes these events. Our festivals range from an extravaganza of potato fields where exciting competitions take place, to farm shows with numerous family oriented activities. Our fairs feature down home good times and good food. Our exhibitions deliver an entertaining, informative and fun experience for every member of the family!

Watch our fishers, farmers and crafts people at work. See the fruits of their labours. Feel the excitement as they compete against each other for best of show or just plain fun. Join the local residents as they watch a parade wind its way through town. Take in a dory race or two. Spend the evening at the horse races or ride the Midway until midnight and play some games of chance. Enjoy the many special performances, competitions and pageants which are an integral part of our fairs, festivals and exhibitions.

Taste the splendor of Prince Edward Island seafood, beef and produce, prepared in delicious time-honored fashion. Enjoy a lobster supper, complete with potato salad, feather-light biscuits, rolls and sweets prepared by local cooks. Sample Island cuisine and learn new ways to prepare our traditional recipes at the "Linking Land and Sea" and "Out of the Sea, Over the Coals" areas of our exhibitions, fairs and festivals. You'll find out why we're famous for our clams, mussels, oysters, lobster, fish, lamb, beef and more!

Close the links between the farm gate and the dinner plate by learning about (and tasting!) the products produced on Prince Edward Island farms. Visit the animal exhibits and the petting farm. You might even get to name a new born calf! Watch the 4-H kids show calves, ponies, fashions and the many items created for their handicraft and display areas. You'll be impressed with their work!

Children between the ages of six and thirteen are encouraged to enter the "Rising Stars Competition" at one of the fairs. Youths aged from thirteen to twenty-one years of age can enter one of the exciting "Youth Talent Search" competitions held at Island fairs and festivals. The winner of this provincial competition will get an all expense paid trip to a national level competition held in a major Canadian city.

Other children's activities include everything from sack races, pony rides and face painting to special games developed into tournaments by local firefighters.

Each of the 14 exhibitions, fairs and festivals held on Prince Edward Island has a special focus. While most reflect the Irish, Scottish and English roots of many islanders, the L'Exposition Agricole et le Festival Acadien de la region Evangeline offers an opportunity to explore the delightful culinary and cultural aspects of our French heritage.

Whichever exhibition, fair or festival you plan to attend,
you'll find something for everyone in your family!
