Get ready to party hearty at this year's celebration of the oyster! Featuring the Canadian Oyster Shucking Championships, PEI Grading Championships, Miss Oyster Pearl Contest, Oyster Box Decorating Contest, Oyster/Scallop Suppers, and other entertainments! The highlight of the festival is the Canadian Oyster Shucking Championship and the famous oyster/scallop suppers, but there is much more to enjoy including: Schedule of Events 45th Tyne Valley Oyster Festival Wednesday, Aug 5th to Sunday, August 9th, 2009 July 30th & 31st 7; 30 pm special performances of the play” The Darling Brats’, Britannia Hall, Tyne Valley. Advance tickets only at MacNeill’s Convenience Store.
Tuesday, Aug. 4th 7:30 pm East Coast live with The Lazy Jacks and special guest Heidi Ellis, Britannia Hall, Tyne Valley.
Wednesday, Aug 5th PEI Moosehead Trivia 7 pm Doors open 8 pm Play begins 19 Years & over
Thursday, Aug 6th 6 pm Drop off decorated oyster boxes- all ages 7 pm Opening ceremonies. 7:30 pm Miss Oyster Pearl Pageant - Girls casual wear 8 pm - Family Night- (Hypnotist, Magician, Illusionist- Ian Stewart) suitable for all ages. Enjoy the 45th anniversary cake after the show.
Friday, August 7th 11 am-4 pm Kids' Day held in Green Park, Port Hill - featuring live entertainment 4 pm-7 pm Tyne Valley Fire Hall- Fried Oyster & Scallop Suppers- $16. Ham/Turkey Cold Plate available $10. Meal includes roll, fries/potato salad, coleslaw, pie, and tea/coffee. 7:30 pm PEI Oyster Grading Championships 8:15 pm Canadian Oyster Chowder Competition 8:30 pm Licensed Bar. Must be 19 years and over - Special Section for minors 10 pm Canadian Oyster Shucking Championship. Contestants from all over Canada. Winner represents Canada @ the World Championship in Galway, Ireland. Live music – The Lazy Jacks
Saturday, August 8th 1:00 pm Community Parade, Tyne Valley Village 3:00 pm West Prince County Volunteer Fireman's Challenge- outside Tyne Valley Community Centre (rink). 3:10 pm Miss Oyster Pearl Pageant-Girls street wear 3:30 pm. live entertainment -1st round of adult singing contest. 4 pm-7 pm Tyne Valley Fire Hall- Fried Oyster &Scallop Suppers $16. Ham/ Turkey Cold Plate available $10. Meal includes roll, fries/potato salad, coleslaw, pie, and tea/coffee. 4:30pm-Out of the Sea and Over the Coals 10 pm Double Band Dance at Tyne Valley Community Centre (rink) featuring "Faces” &" Rock Bottom “. Sunday, August 9th 10 am Festival Worship Service Non-Denominational Ecumenical Service featuring Community Choir and plenty of musical components @ the Legion in Ellerslie 1pm Matinee Sulky Horse Racing at Tyne Valley race track Valley Downs- CANCELLED 2 pm Singing Contest Finals featuring “Faces" - Cash Prizes- $600-$300-$200. 4:30 pm Pageant and Community Awards- Oyster Box Decorating awards-Youth of the Year-Women's Institute Member of the Year-Citizen of the Year- Volunteer of the Year -Crowning of Miss Oyster Pearl, Festival Queen 2009-Appearance by Former Queen
